Here’s a cooking live version of At The Same Time recorded in Cologne. Enjoy!
Click here to hear a specially recorded version of Jona Lewie’s much-loved classic “Stop The Cavalry” from Adrian Taaffe’s Christmas Day show on LMFM. Happy Christmas, everyone!
Thanks to Bill Coleman for capturing this version of Turn The World from the Spirit Store show on the tour.
This was the week that I was most looking forward to on the tour - two of my favourite venues, and the two shortest drives of the tour. Hurrah!
On Wednesday I was in my beloved Spirit Store in Dundalk. This was a proper headline show in the downstairs venue. It’s a great room, great vibe, great sound and there was a lovely (and lively!) little crowd in. Can’t wait to go back.
Thursday’s show was in Boyle’s of Slane, a really terrific spot. Andrew and Ditte run a fantastically tight ship and it’s always a great pleasure to play there. Again, the sound was great and so were the ever-responsive regular crowd.
The concept of the night was simple and brilliant - as it was November 11th, we were there to celebrate the Armistice in poetry and song. Cue some beautiful and stirring odes by Wilfrid Owen, Rupert Brook and Francis Ledwidge, a Slane local.
I happen to be a great lover of Great War poetry, and read Siegfried Sassoon’s “Base Details” in the middle of my set.
Next week - Galway and Dublin!
Wexford’s Red Chair is a relatively new club (2 years old) that runs in the comfy and vibey confines of the Bean n Berry coffee house.
Two and a half hours of driving in torrential rain got us there, and it was wonderful to walk into such a comfortable and friendly spot. The first half the evening was an open mic, and it was lovely to have a nice coffee and listen to some superb tunes.
Host and compere Alan introduced me for my guest slot and I did about 40 minutes. Wexford has always been good to me, and last night was no exception, with a very friendly and fun audience giving me a great response and buying up lots of CDs after.
What a great start to the tour! Thanks everyone.
Roll on Cork on Tuesday …
